Relation between low capacity battery for Powerbook G4 12" and logic board

Hi, I just got Powerbook G4 12". Currently, the remaining capacity of my original rechargeable battery has 321 mAh available, which is around 8 minutes left if I don't plug the AC adapter. While I'm still looking for new original battery for my PB, is it okay if I use the battery with having AC adapter plugged to my PB?, will it affect the logic board? or any significant component?.

By the way, here's the details information

  AC Power:

  System Sleep Timer (Minutes):    10

  Disk Sleep Timer (Minutes):    10

  Display Sleep Timer (Minutes):    5

  Dynamic Power Step:    No

  Display Sleep Uses Dim:    Yes

  Battery Power:

Talking about original battery, do all original Powerbook G4 12" batteries have apple logo on them? and words like ".....designed by Apple in California" ?. Some people sell Powerbook G4 12" batteries on the internet and claim that their stuff are original (they don't have Apple logo on them), do you think it's reasonable for an original (brand new in box) rechargeable battery for powerbook G412" costs around $20-30 ?.

I'd very appreciate if someone can help. Thank you so much.

Battery Capacity at 95% on brand new MBA

I bought an 11" MBA 8/256 i7 config last week and was disapointed to see that the battery capacity on it was at 96% of design. It had 0 cycles on it. I figured it was a fluke and charged the battery overnight. Still 96%. I ran it down and charged again to get 4 total cycles - same thing still at 96% of design.

It was stuck at 4480mAh while design is 4680 mAh.

This was only 4%, but still I never had this issue on any of my previous MBP or Retina 15 machines, so felt like this was a lemon.

Took it back to Apple store for a refund and exchange. Got a new MPA with same specs...

This one is stuck at 95% of capacity! It is at 4447 max charge...

*** Apple! Do I have to return this one and wait a month for a different batch coming from China that MAYBE has better batteries installed!

After 25 years of owning Apple products I'm starting to feel like this may be 1994 when Apple quality went down.

I'll give it one more try, but seriously I shouldn't have to go through 3 laptops (with non-removable batteries) to get one that actually meets design spec!

Mountain Lion and Battery Capacity

I know that there has been much discussion about Mountain Lion and how quickly your laptop battery runs down when running it.  But most of the discussion seems to assume that ML is consuming more power than its predecessors.  I am starting a new thread because I wanted to suggest a different idea...

I'll start with a full disclosure - I have a five year old 15" MacBook Pro that has 4GB RAM.  The battery has been fading gently over the years and the system has been telling me to service the battery for at least a year.  I have not bothered because it all still worked for the ways that I use it.  I thought that it was poor that after only 283 cycles I had 50% capacity when the usual measure is 80% after 300 cycles but hey, that's life. As I say, it still worked for how I use it and that is the important thing.

I upgraded to Mountain Lion last week (from Snow Leopard) and the battery life has plummeted.  Using CoconutBattery the problem seems to be how ML measures the battery capacity.  Snow Leopard reported that I had 50-60% of the design capacity in the battery.  ML reports that it is 20% or less.

So, for me, it looks like ML is measuring a much lower capacity in the battery.  Right now it thinks that I have 13% of the design capacity, fully charged my battery holds only 710mAh - that is not going to translate in to a lot of time away from the mains.

I did try to reset the battery using the approved calibration routine.  Usually (under SL) , if run until it shuts itself down and then left on sleep overnight, the battery is fully discharged in the morning (and the sleep light has gone off).  After being left last night the sleep light was still happily on - ie there was enough charge left in the "fully discharged" battery for it to sleep through the night, which is unusual.

So, I think that I am getting a poorer battery experience because ML is measuring less capacity in the battery.  It thinks that there is 710mAh instead of the 2500mAh that SL measured.  That means that each 1% of battery is only 7.1mAh instead of 25mAh, so each % is used up much more quickly and the battery life is much less.

Assuming that the extra 1790mAh that SL measured is still there it also explains why it was able to sleep all night on what should have been a fully discharged battery.

The question for Apple is why does ML measure a lower capacity and how does it fix it...

Defective battery? 200 cycles and zer0 charge capacity.

I had just visited the apple store for service, I was told my battery could not be replaced as I was out of warranty (2011 macbook pro).  However I was looking over battery replacement policies and it states that defective batteries are covered one year after your warranty expires.  The diagnostics showed that I had ~190 cycles but somehow the battery was COMPLETELY depleted, this sounds to me like a defective battery yes?

Does Apple provide a warranty on a replacement battery provided under Out of Warranty service?

Apple will provide a warranty against hardware defects on the replacement battery for one year from the date of the Out of Warranty service. Please note that the battery is a consumable item and after a period of normal use the battery's ability to hold an electrical charge will be diminished. A replacement battery that has failed because it has been consumed via normal use is not covered under warranty.

battery capacity dropped down to 58% from 86% in a few days

Is this normal? And is there a way I could prevent this from happening when I get a new battery?

I've been using my macbook pro in a normal way, mostly for browsing and sometimes skype.

Usually I work on power, but sometimes not. At night I take it off the charger.

I calibrate the battery every 2-3 months.

I find it strange that after 311 loadcycles the battery capacity has dropped to 58%.
