my lap top only works when it's plugged into the adapter. it doesn't CHARGE anymore. it works fine when plugged in but shuts off if it's not. Do i need a new battery? i just got a new charger because the one the computer came with died. please help!

When I have my ipod (4th generation) plugged into the wall charger the unit works fine and if i am not using it the battery charge indicator shows that the battery is fully charged. As soon as the ipod is unplugged from the wall it immediately turns off. Is this a problem with the battery?, with the ipod?, or is it a setting that can be changed??
