I know that the charger and outlit works because I plugged it into my sister's computer and the green light turned on and it was charging. But when I plug it in the light doesnt turn on and it doesnt charge my computer. I think it might be the battery but i have only had my macbook pro for a year... All my essays and papers I have to turn in are on my laptop and I definitely can not afford another one... HELP!!!
One day, randomly, my laptop decides it won't charge. At first I had thought it was the outlet, since the laptop had charged well earlier that day. I tried many different outlets, but I had the same result. So I thought that it might be the charger. I tried three different chargers in various outlets, and yet again, the same outcome. I have no idea how or why this happened. Nothing had occurred to make it this way, so I didn't drop it or anything of that sort. Can you please help me?
I started out with a Mac mini on the principle that a 'luggable desktop' was useful, but found it annoying to have to think about peripherals. I moved to a refurb white Macbook in December 2007, since when it's been my only computer (until I recently got a Chromebook as my 'secondary and portable' computer. The Macbook strikes me as heavy-ish, the battery life has never been any better than three or four hours, and because it's my computer I wouldn't take it out for the day where it might be lost or stolen. If I go away for a week or weekend I take it with me, and use it on mains power (the only thing I gain from using the battery is the extra worry about how long it will last).
Pretty much the only useful thing the battery does, using it that way, is that it holds power through power cuts and accidental disconnections.
I'd quite happily leave the battery there indefinitely, if all it does was lose power over its lifetime and eventually not work. I'm on my second blown battery in six years, so I decided to go without the battery forever (because it's a luggable desktop and the moment I put in another battery it will add to the running costs).
It was a nasty surprise to find that Apple fuses its wildly expensive (and slightly unreliable) battery with the backplate so I ended up with Polo, the Computer with a Hole in It. So as far as closing it up goes I'd have to go with the proper battery (which fits, but costs £100 every two or three years) or the cheap Far Eastern clone (which does not fit properly, and it's anyone's guess how reliable or safe it is over time, but is inexpensive).
I used it once with the hole in it, and the back corner where the power cord fits got disturbingly hot over not a hugely long time. Does this mean that the electricity which would otherwise charge the thing is running riot frying or melting whatever gets in the way, or is it within normal parameters (I rarely grab it by the underneath in normal use)?
Today I got a plastic shell case instead. It has some vents over the hole where the battery was, which I'm considering taping up (the main issue I considered with the hole was dirt and gunk), and other vents in the bottom pa rt which is slightly raised, and am using this. Is this a safe and effective way to use the machine? Are there any issues I haven't thought of?

So basically I have had my 30GB ipod video (5th gen) for quite a few years and have never really had any problems with it till now (aside from a slightly faulty backlight).
The other day I tried to turn it on, only to find that the screen alternated between the "sad ipod face" icon and the "please wait, very low battery" icon, despite being plugged in to my usual wall charger. After leaving it a while and messing with the buttons, attempting to reset it and such likes, it came up with a message telling me to connect it to itunes to restore, which I did. However, neither my computer nor my itunes would recognise the ipod and it came up with the low battery screen more frequently.
I left it plugged in to my wall charger in the hope it would charge and after trying a couple of times it worked, I tried using the 5 r's as far as possible though, not very succesfully as i could not access the ipod through the computer. I also tried following the instructions on some other sites, though once again to no avail.
After having carried it around in my bag for the past couple days, with some more attempts to fix it I decided to have another proper look on the internet and managed to get it into diagnostic mode and then put it onto Manual Test mode >IO > Hard Drive > HD SMART Data, however when I do this it comes up with a message saying "SMART not supported" What does this mean? I also tried the auto test and as far as I am aware it seemed okay, though I am not really sure and I couldn't complete the test as i haven't got a firewire cable.
Is there any hope for the harddrive or do you think it is time for a new ipod?... should I try taking it apart, considering I have no experience?....
Any ideas on how to fix it would really be appreciated!

I closed my laptop before it could shut down properly last night. I noticed that the white light kept blinking so I opened it and found that it was stuck. I then forced it to shut down by pressing the power button. This morning I switched on my laptop and found that it actually had not been switched off and it was stuck. It responded a little when I clicked my browser, but then the whole thing just went into sleep mode. It wouldn't wake up so I hard reset it. But now my laptop just starts up with he Apple logo, goes to the startup blue screen and wouldn't load anymore. The cursor comes up and I can move it around. But after a few seconds it just goes to sleep. I can only wake it up if I press the power button for a long time until the light goes off then press it again for it to "wake up" to the blue screen. I tried resetting using Ctrl + Alt + P + R three times but it still goes back to the blue screen. I'm waiting for the battery to go out now, I have no idea what else to do!
This sort of happened before where it wouldn't wake up properly and I had to keep pressing the power button to wake it up. It would wake up for a while, load a couple pieces of my desktop then go to sleep. I kept doing that a few times until my desktop fully loaded and it started working again. But it doesn't seem to be the case now because all I'm getting is a blue screen!
