I have something strange going on here with my 15" MBP Unibody
I connected my MBP 15" machine to an external FireWire 400 drive last night using a FireWire 800 to FireWire 400 cable. The drive was not plugged in, but the MBP was running. When I started the drive, the MBP shut down instantally. I could not start the laptop. I removed the FireWire drive, plugged the laptop in, it started up just fine, and I did my work, but did not get to connecting up the FireWire drive last night.
The machine would not start up at all this morning, but worked just fine with the power adapter connected. The battery showed a charge, but the machine would shut down immediatedly when I removed the power adapter. Interestingly, the LED charge lights on the side go dead when the power adapter is disconnected, but work just fine when connected.
I also recieved a notice that the PRAM battery was dead and the date and time needed to be reset.
I reset the SMC via the Apple instructions, and zapped the PRAM.
No joy.
When the laptop is plugged in, everything works fine, and the battery LED display shows a charge. The screen display shows a full charge as well.
When the power adapter is unplugged, nothing at all, no LED charge indicators at all.
Could my battery just have suddenly failed? It had a 4 plus hour battery life until 9:45 last night.
I checked the FireWire drive this afternoon, and it seems to work just fine.
Everything on the laptop seems to work fine when plugged in as well.
Any thoughts anyone?
Dave
