Whirring, battery and skipping songs

My ipod wouldn’t play some songs from the artist I was listening to, so I switched over to another artist and it wouldn’t play those songs either.

The ipod has played both artists before and all of the songs in question play in itunes

It started making that weird whirring noise too.

So I reset it (middle button + menu) and when it came back to, the battery went down to a red line.

Now it’s playing the 2^nd artist in question, and the battery went back up to green – though only half full now.

I don’t understand what is wrong or how to fix it.

 

I’ve already gone through 2 other ipods with crazy battery problems, I will be very dissatisfied if this one has a battery problem.
